TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY

Today has been a surprising and wonderful day. After leaving the gym I went to S&S Cafeteria to pick up some food. As always, especially on Sundays, the line was long. I placed my order and sat down to wait. Eventually, I was able to get to the cashier. When I got there she said, “Your meal has already been paid for”. I thought there must be a mistake so I told her that she must have the wrong person. She pointed and said, “Your meal has been paid for by Mrs. Smith”. I looked toward where she was pointing and saw a lady I didn’t know. I walked over, introduced myself and thanked her. Mrs. Ceretta Smith said that God told her to do it, adding that her grandparents were gone. She said, “The cashier wasn’t supposed to tell you who paid for the meal”.

As I said earlier, today was a good day—not just for the meal but for the idea that someone would think enough of me to do that. Thank you, Mrs. Smith. It was wonderful meeting you. Be blessed.

B.B. King - Blues Legend and Nice Guy

I was at the gym yesterday (May 15, 2015) when someone asked me if I ever listen to The Blues. I replied in the affirmative, and he told me that B.B. King had passed away. That made me really sad.

Many years ago, while I was still working at WJBF-TV in Augusta, Georgia, I met B.B. King at the airport and asked him if he would be kind enough to do an interview with me. He said, no problem, anything you want, please go ahead. We talked for a long time, and of course, one of my questions was about the name he gave his guitar, "Lucille". The gist of the story was that one night while he was playing in a nightclub a fight broke out and a heating barrel was knocked over and set the place on fire. He got out safely but realized he'd left his guitar behind. He rushed back into the burning building and saved his guitar. He later learned that the original fight was over a woman named "Lucille" and named that guitar (and subsequent guitars) "Lucille" in order to remind himself never to do anything that stupid again.

I will always cherish that memory of the time I got to spend with The King of the Blues. He was a kind and gentle individual. With his passing the world lost an icon.

Mrs. Louise Page

Today, April 25, 2015, is my cousin Louise's birthday. If she were still alive today she would be 86 years old.

I still miss you, Louise.

MEMORIES - WOLF (1490 AM) RADIO

Yesterday evening I was going through some things that were packed away and came across a fountain pen that I used while working at radio station WOLF-1490 in Syracuse, New York. My how the time just slips away...

Have a Blessed Sunday,

Frank

P.S. I think the AM station is currently silent, but there is a tribute site (http://www.wolf1490.net/) if anyone wants to check it out. It's a bit cluttered, but there are a lot of memories posted. In his youth, the late, great Dick Clark worked at WOLF, too.
